Ferragosto: Why it’s Hard to Find Italians in Italy on the 15th of August.

The 15th of August Italy celebrates Ferragosto. On that day you might find yourself wondering around a deserted town. No shops are open if not a few cafes that gather together all the people that like you are asking: where is everyone? […]

Ferragosto is the most sacred holiday after Christmas, although it is strictly pagan. The name comes from Feriae Augusti – the rest day of Augustus, roman Emperor. On this day every single person in Italy is on holiday.

If you are in Sicily on Ferragosto, forget finding a plumber or an open shop. My advise is to go with the flow and to where everyone else is going. Where? Well, by the sea, of course!

Seeing is believing…
